YASMIN SHALALDEH
LEAD ARTISTIC ASSOCIATE
Yasmin Shalaldeh is an actress, theatre maker, creative producer, and educator from Palestine.
Born in Jerusalem, her journey in arts began as a young person during the 2nd Intifada, where she discovered the power of culture to share stories, express experiences, and foster resilience.
Studying acting at the Drama Academy in Palestine, Yasmin obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Acting promoted by the Folkwang University of Arts in Germany.
A skilled actor, physical performer, singer, dancer and Ukulele player, Yasmin has worked in theatre in Palestine and internationally. This includes in some of Palestine's most prestigious theatres including The Freedom Theatre, Al Hara, Al Kasaba, Ashtar and the National Palestinian Theatre. Using culture as a form of resistance, performance highlights include in Metro Gaza which won the MESS Festival 2024 Jury award and has toured Palestine, Tunisia, Iraq, Switzerland, France and Serbia.
Expanding into film, documentary and visual arts has enabled Yasmin to bring stories of liberation to a wider audience. On screen her latest role was in The Deer's Tooth, directed by Saif Hammash, winning the Special Mention at the Amity Short Film Fest at Dostluk, and was nominated for the cinefondation award Cannes Film Fest.
Passionate about education, Yasmin was the former Head Of Acting at The Freedom Theatre and part of the leadership team when the theatre was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Believing that the intersection of education and the arts can be a space where creativity and personal growth thrive, she continues to lead training in acting, movement and drama, including in the young people's prison in Ramallah.
A professional expert in Medical clowning, Yasmin works for the Red Noses, exploring play and politics in hospitals, old people's homes and rehabilitation centres across Palestine.
A Lead Artistic Associate at Artists On The Frontline, Yasmin collaborates across multiple projects, including leading the Youth Associates, Youth Against Invasion, the Youth Exchange in Catalunya and contributing to Mayday.
